Project : HONGE OIL AS AN ALTERNATE FUEL FOR C.I.ENGINE
Synopsis : Increased environmental awareness and depletion of energy resources are driving the researchers to investigate upon the alternate fuels that are environmentally more acceptable. Vegetable oil is a potential alternative fuel. However, due to its high viscosity and low volatility, it poses several problems when used for prolonged periods in C.I.Engine. The most viable and commonly used method to make it suitable for use in C.I engine is transesterification. Biodiesel - the esters of fatty acid derived from transesterification of vegetable oils, have properties similar to components of petroleum based mineral diesel fuels.
Present investigation focuses on the use of blends of transesterified Honge oil with diesel fuel. The objective of this study is to investigate the performance and emission characteristics of the C.I Engine under different injection pressure with different percentage of blends. In order to determine the optimum injection pressure with the use of esterified Honge oil blends, three different injection pressures was employed viz. 140,150 and 160 bar. The result of 5%, 10%,15%,20%,25%,30% and 40% blends along with full ester and full diesel performance are reported here. It is observed that engine performance and emission with blends of Honge oil ester is very close to that of diesel.
