OBJECTIVE To be able to utilize to the fullest and impart my gained knowledge and experience in structural design, both involving primary design and detailed connection (steelworks) design. And to eventually pursue a position in the design management. Three-and-a-half (3.5) years in steelwork connection design checking engineer for William Hare (India) Pvt. Ltd – a UK-based company plus more than Ten (10) Years of varied and extensive primary structural engineering exposure in both local and international top caliber projects such as the Metro Manila Light Rail Transit Project, Fiezer Headquarters (UK), Gizan Military Facilities (KSA), Qatargas SPM & CSP Projects (Onshore Pipeline - Doha, Qatar), Investigation and Retrofit of Globe Telecom Towers, and Jica Bridges and Mindanao Bridge Rehabilitaion Projects. Steelwork Connection Design Engineer/Checker (March 29, 2004 to 25 November 2006, 4th Flr. Sreela Terrace, 105 1st Main Road, Gandhi Nagar, Adyar, Chennai, 600-020, Tamil Nadu, India)
Engaged as Structural Steelwork Connection Design Engineer/Checker for William Hare (India) Ltd. (a UK-based company). Work involves verification of Connection Design templates (MathCAD) for various connection configuration, Checking of Connection Calculations, Layouts/Setouts, and Connection Marking Plans (CMP’s) before submittal to UK-head-office; Checks whether all joints are properly identified and labeled and that all necessary joints have connection calculations; Verifies whether end joint connections are matching, e.g. gusset plate thickness matches with other end for bracings; Discuss with Team approches to design; Aid in training new connection designers; Work also includes: Creation of calculation design/templates; Provides preliminary as well as final details for CAD detailing; Modifies connection based on Client’s revision and or site modifications; Gives direct instructions to site/ fabrication people for any modification The Checking process involves (1) Designer’s self-checks, (2) Cross-checking by a Team-member, (3) Incorporation of team-member’s comments, (4) Thorough check by the CHECKER (my part) in part or whole package, (5) Incorporation of Checker’s comments, (6) Checker’s Re-check after incorporating comments to verify whether corrections are carried out, (7) Final cross-checking of the whole package with Team –leader and Design Office Head. (8) Incorporating final comments by the designer or team-leader and producing PDF files for submittal, (9) Final Checker’s run on the PDF files before uploading to ftp site. The Design and Checking process for a particular design package takes from 3 days (small packages) to 2 weeks (big and complicated packages).
As Structural Engineer - Engaged as the Structural Engineer for UAE Factory Project (June 2004). Responsible for the design of (almost) entire package, i.e. from primary design (load calculations, modeling and analysis in STAADPro), connection calculation Checking, Foundation design, and preparation of foundation details and plan (in AutoCAD).
Engaged as Structural Steelwork Connection Design Team Leader/ Designer/ and Checker for William Hare, Philippines Inc (with office at Unit 602, 6th Floor Prestige Tower, Ortigas, Pasig, Metro Manila from December 2005 to May 2006). Work includes leading the team for the design and checking of 12 structures for Qatar Gas 2 Project, UAE , with one 1000tons-structure (ID: 28-PR00010) started and complete within a month. Responsible for coordinating with India Drawign Office Manager to aid/respond to queries for detailing the completed connections. Work includes checking of fabrication details. Prepares design drawings, preliminary set outs and details in Autocad. Engaged as Structural Engineer for RS Jardin & Associates and Steel Detailer for ACRO Industrial & Construction Company for the following Globe Telecom Towers. Work involves tower investigation and retrofit for additional antenna loads, foundation check, pedestal and anchorage investigation, and CAD detailing of recommended retrofit sections. Investigation and Retrofit of 50-meter, 3-Legged Self Support Antenna Globe Towers located in Tacloban, Pasacao, Catbalogan and Iriga City from May 16 to May 22, 2002. Provided detailed calculation, developed details and sketched the design.
June 1999–Dec. 2000 Formerly Westbury Tubular Structures, Ltd. (Philippines) – William Hare Phils, Inc. (present) Senior Structural Engineer Provided structural services such as design checks for MMLRT Line 2 Project Roof Space Frame for all Staions. Work involves coordination with Korean Engineers for structural verification of Roof Space Frame, modeling of Roof Space Frame in Staad software and investigation of applicable loads. Checked shop drawings and coordinated with steel detailers for corrections. Provided necessary calculation data to substantiate the adoption of the connection configurations for the primary steelwork for the station superstructure. Prepared reports for structural documentation for submittal to MMLRT Consultants Checked design drawings/ fabrication drawing and coordinated with CADD designer for correction. If necessary, and in the absence/ unavailability of CADD designer , incorporates correction in CADD file Prepared worksheets for determining “solution type” for the Reconfiguration of Anchor bolt misalignment in Boston and Anonas Station for the LRT-2 Project. June 1998–June 1999 Parsons International, Ltd. (Phil) Associate Structural Engineer Hired for the design of GIZAN MILITARY FACILITIES in Gizan and Farasan Islands, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The project involves the design of around 200 structures such as residential units, hospitals, theaters, mosques, recreational facilities, ports, towers and bridges.
As Structural Engineer Responsible for the design of Airport Operation and Administration Facilities (D.I. 01810). Design involves computer modeling in Staad III, dead load calculation, live load calculation, wind load calculation using ASCE’95, seismic load calculation using UBC’97 and Microsoft excel. Design of Purlin, Baseplate and foundation using self-produced computer program. Prepares connection details and supervises CAD designer. Responsible for the design of 70mx35.7m Mosque (Steel Structure) for 2500 persons with an underground shelter including the nearby offices (steel and concrete structure),D.I. 08270. Responsible for the design and analysis of Broadband Backbone Communication Tower . A 90-meter high, three-legged, self-supporting communication tower located at Farasan Island. The tower is designed to withstand a wind speed of 44 m/s (160 kph) and is loaded with a HP- Andrew type Antenna. Antenna loads are obtained and calculated using Antwind (software for calculating antenna loads). Wind is considered as three cases: one is that wind acts normal to one face, another is that wind hits directly the joints, and the wind acts parallel to one face. The tower is modeled in 3 – dimensions using the microstation (SE Edition) software and imported to Staad. Design involves computation of wind load using Antwind, computer modeling, foundation design using self-produced computer program in Microsoft excel and mathcad. Prepares and draft connection details. Prepares preliminary drawings and supervises CAD designer.
As Bridge Engineer Responsible for the design of Bridges 10, 15 and 16 at Road, Firing Range Area. (D.I. 49900). Bridges 10 and 16 have an overall length of 150m (6 spans), with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete deck slab supported by an AASTHO girders. Expansion joints are provided every 3-25m continuous spans. Bridge 15 have an overall length of 200m (8 spans), with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete deck slab supported by an AASTHO girders. Expansion joints are provided every 3-25m and 2-25m continuous spans. Pier cap beams are designed and modeled in Staad III. Work involves stationing of bridge, staad modeling, cap beam design, column design and combined footing design using a self-generated computer program in Microsoft Excel. Duties also include preparation of preliminary plans and supervise CAD drafting. Responsible for the design of Bridge at Power Plant Road (D.I. 31210). The bridge spanned 150 meters, with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete deck slab supported by an AASTHO girders. Responsible for the design of Bridge to Firing Range Area (D.I. 46620). The bridge spanned 225 meters, with a cast-in-place reinforced concrete deck slab supported by an AASTHO girders. Responsible for the design of the two 150m-parallel bridges (ramp 1 and 2) for the Main Gate Cloverleaf and Interchange (D.I. 30600).
As Ports Engineer Incharge in the design of Ship Repair Dock (200 meter long) located at Gizan and Farasan Islands that will serve to DWT Tanker 30,000 and Frigate. The design includes slab, beam, pile, and shearkey, fender and fender supports and expansion joint design. Work includes loading calculation, staad modeling, and flat slab design and pile design. Duties also include preparation of preliminary plans and supervise CAD drafting (D.I. 01726F). Responsible for both the design of the Ammunition Dock (200 by 30-meter structure with a water depth of 10 meters alongside of the pier) and Access Causeway. The Ammunition pier is connected to the shore by means of a causeway installed on the breakwater and an access causeway structure. The causeway is 12 by 60 meter in dimension and an access causeway structure. Steel pipe piles support both pier and causeway. The pier is designed to accommodate two berths of ammo ships (one on each side). The pipe bents have an outside diameter of 610 mm and a wall thickness of 16 mm.(D.I. 01703). Responsible for the design of Pier 2, which is sized at 200m by 30m, with a water depth of 15m alongside of the pier. This pier is designed to serve Freighter and Visitor Ships (D.I. 01702). Responsible for the design of Farasan Wharf. Pier is sized at 200 meters by 25.6 meters, with a water depth of 13 meters alongside of the pier. This pier is designed to serve cargo ships, visitor ships and fuel tankers. The north side of the pier will be equipped with a fuel unloading station. These stations are equipped with four loading arms. Quick release hooks are provided for the tankers (D.I. 01730F).
March 1997–Nov. 1997 TCGI Engineers Associate Structural Engineer Responsible for the design of underpass (box culvert) for pedestrian and vehicles. Work involves computer modeling, design and analysis using Staad III. Project Title: Lima Tech Center Package C. One of the three-man-review team for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT Line 3) that would go over the plans and calculations of Daiken Engineers (Japanese company) for the above project. Checking involves going over the input data in the Staad model. Checking whether all necessary loads were considered and going over the plans whether the design conforms to applicable codes. Work also involves remodeling of the structure, redesign of columns, beams and foundation using self-produced computer programs.
October 1995–Jan. 1997 Schema Konsult, Inc. Associate Structural Engineer Responsible for the design and analysis of steel conveyor bridges from reject silo to clinker cooler for the Apo Cement Plant Project located in Cebu, Philippines. Work involves site inspection, computer modeling of steel trusses, load calculations, design and analysis of steel trusses using Staad III for the Magnolia Poultry Processing Plant in Laguna, Phil.. Responsible for the design and analysis of steel trusses using both Microsoft Excel and Staad III. Designed beams and slab of Fujitsu Expansion Factory B building manually or using self-produced computer programs. Responsible for the design of retaining wall of the two basements of 7-storey National Electrification Authority building located at Quezon City. Work also involves calculation of loads and design of main and secondary entrances and exit stairs. Responsible for the design and analysis of concrete and steel main frames for the Uniwide – Dreamworld Project. The project is located at Naic, Cavite. Work involves load calculations, computer modeling, and design of columns and footing using computer-produced programs.
