I was born and brought up in Kashmir – the ultimate paradise on earth. Cold climate meant wrapping ourselves in warm embroidered pashminas. The intricately done hand work always fascinated me. In winters, our whole family would travel to Delhi and Rajasthan. Always passionate about ethnic hand made stuff, I gathered quite a collection over a period of time, which was much liked by my relatives and friends. Then, the idea of combining passion with profession struck. It all started by selling from home and over a short period of time, I’d made some regular customers. But deep inside, I wanted to promote our handicrafts on a wider platform of international market. The whole idea was to make these exquisitely crafted masterpieces available to people like me in different parts of the world, who shared my collector’s passion. But, that involved a lot of money.
Then, marriage happened and as luck would have it my husband turned out to have specialized in web designing and providing e-commerce solutions. During one of our discussions, I told him about my innate desire. He liked the idea and promised to help. Initially it was just the two of us. We traveled to different parts of the country, studied and collected varied handicrafts. Our company, AarnavCraft Pvt. Ltd. was born. My husband designed the website and we started on a small scale. Soon, we had a good client base.
Aarnav means ‘ocean’ and AarnavCraft, true to its name, is an ocean of crafts. The vast variety of crafts range from ethnic apparel to captivating silver jewelry, from Kashmiri ‘kasidakari’ to handmade embroidered shoes - to deck you right from head to toe.
